Who can be married at St Peter's? -
Under the new Church of England Marriage Measure 2008, it is possible for couples who live outside the parish to get married at St. Peter's. Please contact the Parish Office who will be happy to discuss with you whether or not you have a qualifying connection.
How can I find out whether I live in the parish? -
Try looking at the parish map. If you are still not sure, the Parish Office will be pleased to advise you.
Are there any other restrictions? -
Special regulations apply if you are not British Nationals and have not resided in the UK for 6 months. We will help you with these when you contact us.
Does it matter if one of us has been divorced? -
Divorce is not always a barrier to remarriage in church, but if either of you has been divorced, please ask the Parish Office to arrange for you to meet one of our clergy to discuss your particular circumstances.
How do I book a wedding at St Peter's? -
Contact the Parish Office. Our parish secretary will help you work out if you have a qualifying connection (see Q1). If you do, we will send you a Wedding Application Form for you to complete and return with any necessary supporting documentation. After this we will be able to confirm the date and time of your wedding.
What happens after that? -
At the beginning of each year, a meeting is held in the church for all the year's wedding couples. This is an opportunity for you to meet the minister, organist, flower coordinator and the parish secretary, and to begin the process of arranging your wedding service. A second meeting, with the minister taking your service, will be arranged for about 6 weeks prior to the service. This gives you a further opportunity to discuss arrangements, to meet the minister privately, and to talk more generally about Christian marriage. Finally, we will organise a rehearsal for a few days before the wedding so that all the key people know what will happen and their part in the ceremony.
